One of the elements for the painting will be pomegranates. They are very symbolic fruit, used widely throughout art. Their symbolism is linked with resurrection, life and fertility. For this commission piece I am including them as a symbol of hope and love.
I have always loved this fruit and have spent many hours as a little girl, picking the seeds out with a needle.
These images are from my sketchbook. The top one is acrylic and I love the violet iron oxide which gives a lovely rich purple red colour.

This one is a more sketchy. I used acrylic inks this time. Red oxide was used with a bamboo drawing pen for mark making and gold was used as a wash for colour. The background is acrylic paint.
I also did some quick reference sketches of the fruit cut in half and segments.
